Orla Christensen 1924 - 2010
Orla passed away surrounded by his family, on December 21st at Langley Memorial Hospital. Orla will be sadly missed by his brothers Bent and Kaj, and sister Inga, daughters Ulla and Elin, grandsons Shane, Adrian, Tim and Adam, grand-daughter-in-law Kimberley and great grandsons Liam and Brady, as well as his extended family and many close friends. He is predeceased by his loving wife Doris Christensen and brothers Sigfred and Henning. Relocating his family from native Denmark in February 1957, Orla settled in British Columbia and became a proud Canadian citizen. He was successful in numerous professions, and a brilliant lifelong sport fisherman. Orla was a full-time volunteer at the Tynehead Fish Hatchery, and his work along with other volunteers was key to the continued return of salmon and steelhead to the Serpentine River.
In accordance with Orla's wishes, a funeral service will be held at 11am, on Monday January 3rd at Henderson's Funeral Home, in Langley, British Columbia. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife Doris, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby BC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Tynehead Hatchery, 16585 96 Avenue, Surrey, BC, V4N 2E2, in Orla's name.
