LONG, Richard Benson
(Dick) (Rick)
March 7, 1935 - December 30, 2016
After a long hard fight with cancer and complications we have lost a great man.
Leaving behind is wife Iris, son John, predeceased son David, granddaughter Janet (Jay), grandson David (Jenny), great-grandsons Blake & Cameron, sister Pat Wilson, and many other family and friends. He was born in Lethbridge, Alta, moved at age 7 to North Vancouver, attended Keith Lyns Elementary and graduated from N.V. High. While studying for his CGA he worked for an insurance company, Rolls Royce & NCR.
He married in 1959 and adopted his wife's two boys. He liked people, and was a great 'hugger', he also loved to dance, he could wear out three partners during a Polka! In 1967 he joined BCIT as an Instructor of Office Equipment, later Computer Programming and finally after 35 years he was Manager of Part-Time Studies for Computing. During that time he had moved to Langley on his two acres where he raised chickens and grew a great deal of his food.
On retirement he volunteered his time to several places, mainly The Canadian Cancer Society in Langley. Always ready to help anyone. Even put up a great display of Christmas Lights this year!
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family.
~ God Bless ~
