May 5, 1940 - September 9, 2019
On September 9, 2019 Roger passed away at home with family after a courageous battle with cancer. Roger was born in Huntingdon, Quebec to parents Omer and Pauline Saumier. In 1967 he moved to the West Coast and has lived in Langley for 50 years. Roger had a strong work ethic, a great passion for the outdoors, and always put family first. He was an accomplished hockey player, served in the Royal Canadian Navy, worked independently as a West Coast commercial fisher, a teacher/administrator in the Langley School District, and a community volunteer with Sources Food Bank and for the Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's Penny Pincher. World travelling, spending time at the cottage in Kenora, Ontario with family, passionately spearheading the annual week long outdoor education program at Camp Potlatch, enjoying bridge and poker nights with dear friends - all illuminate what was important to Roger.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beverley, his children: Nicole Saumier (Gary Harvey), Dianne Saumier (Daniel Ross), Richard Saumier (Chantelle Saumier), David Saumier, and Leslie Saumier. His five Grandchildren: Dylan, Riley (Jordan), Chloe, Evan, Brooklynn and great granddaughter Katalina. His sisters Carol (Eugene), Sheila, and Brenda (Rob), as well as his loving nieces and nephews.
At Roger's request, a private funeral has been planned. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.dignitymemorial.com. Donations may be made in memory of Roger to the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation (Penny Pincher) or a charity of your choice.
