Sara Joan Thomas Steil

March 10, 2019

March 10, 2019
Sara was born in New Westminster BC in 1939 and lived in Langley, Surrey and Pender Island. Her parents were Leonard and Eleanor Thomas.

Sara was devoted to her extended family and organized an annual family picnic at the Amelia Adams Park in Surrey, which had been named for her maternal grandmother, Amelia Campbell Adams.

While living in Surrey Sara worked in the steel industry for many years and was well respected by her peers in the industry. She was a very active member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Sara died March 10, 2019 on Pender Island. She leaves behind her son, Bryan Mattick, and daughter-in-law, Gloria of Aldergrove, her daughter, Karen Mattick of Calgary, grandchildren Christina Mattick of Langley, Felicia Fix of Edmonton, Bradley Fix of Vancouver, Alyx Michaelski of Burnaby, Adam and Sharilyn Michaelski of Mission, great grandchildren Caitlyn, Amelia, Alyssa and Kilian and her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and John Pattinson.

Her other great love was the natural environment and all the animals. She worked to save habitat and protect such iconic species as the orca. She was passionate about the trees and other plant life. In retirement, she was a very active volunteer on Pender Island. She shared her time with the Power Squadron, the Museum, the Islands Trust, the Pender Island Trust Protection Society and many other community activities.

Sara was highly respected, with a voice that individual's listened to. She encouraged others to come forward to participate. She was a person they couldn't say "no" to. She is greatly missed.
