RORVIK, Shirl

I am ready to meet my maker but whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter - Winston Churchill

It is with much sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our Mum, Grandma, Aunt, sister, friend and wife Shirl Rorvik (nee Topper) on February 19th 2008 at Langley Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. (She'll be mad we told you her age)

Shirl will be remembered by her "say it as it is" approach to life, to which she lived to its absolute fullest. Never a day went by that she wasn't redecorating her home, preparing picture albums for her grandkids (without digital photos!), enjoying life with her girlfriends (and beating them at poker), golfing, bowling or searching for a bargain to travel where the weather is better.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years John Peter, her sons Randy (Angie), Russell (Brenda) and Chris (Aline); grandsons Malcolm, Dawson, Jared, Conner and granddaughter Melina; and her brothers Ken, Raymond, Doug and twins Barry and David.

Born and raised in Abbotsford, she and John Peter raised their sons in Princeton then moved closer to work and prepared to enjoy retirement in Langley.

Her incredible wit and humorous sarcasm will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. If you shed a tear for her, she would rather it be the same tear you have shed with her before, laughing over some great joke, nearly wetting your pants.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, watermelon in one hand, red wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a children's charity of your choice in Shirl's name.
