Sylvia MACFARLANE

February 9, 2005

MACFARLANE: Sylvia May. Our lives are blessed when we have the opportunity to meet individuals that inspire us to greater hearts.

Kind hearted, generous, fun and adventurous, that's how we'll remember our mother, Sylvia May Macfarlane born April 26, 1916, in Vancouver, B.C. and passed away on February 9, 2005 at her caring residence, Jackman Manor in Aldergrove.

Sylvia was an exceptional woman whose talents and gifts of kindness touched many over her interesting lifetime.

An exceptional horsewoman, she rode to Calgary in 1963 with her husband and kids in the primitive ways of a true pioneer without tents or any extra comforts. She acted as her own contractor building a home in Langley and on several occasions, remodeled many of her other residences in Vancouver, Langley, Gibson's and Merritt.

Fishing was one of her passions for a number of years. Fondly known as the ''Bar Queen'', she frequented the Derby Reach in Fort Langley, always casting for the ''Big One''.

Traveling was another strong passion which she often did on her own. Meeting the locals and always returning home with many friends.

Her trip to Britain and Europe when she was 66 years old is still a marvel. Having driven her El Camino and Boler trailer to Montreal where she boarded a ship to Amsterdam and toured England, France, Germany and Switzerland for six months by herself!

Later trips to Spain, Mexico and Alaska with her camperized vans or trailers always kept her open to new friends and ideas, as well as young at heart.

She was a great homemaker, a designer and best of all, a wonderful parent.

She always encouraged her family and friends to follow their dreams.

What an honor it was to be part of her life.

Sylvia will be missed by all her friends and especially her family, daughter Joan Trout, sons Bill Macfarlane and Dave Macfarlane and their spouses Peter Iwasiuk, Bonnie Macfarlane and Charlotte Anderson. Also brother John Newton and wife Elsie. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Alex Macfarlane.
