Val was born in Huddersfield, England to Margaret and Stephen Briscoe. Val is survived by her partner Keith, brother John (Marylyn), nephew Nolan and niece Caron, cousin Joanne (Edwin), Aunt Pauline, daughters Caroline (Mike), Tracy (Mark), grandson Kristopher, granddaughters Nicole and Samantha. Growing up in the north of England, she finished her school years as the head girl at Rawthorpe School, then trained as a hair dresser and worked in several salons before coming to Canada in the late sixties.
After settling in Langley, Val raised her girls and then worked as a receptionist for several companies where her natural warm and friendly manner was a great asset. She was an avid watcher of the TV program Jeopardy, enjoyed solving the daily Province crossword, and organizing games evenings with friends.
Val bravely fought the debilitating effects of COPD for many years, finally moving into Langley Hospice for her last weeks.
The most heartfelt thanks is given to the medical and nursing staff and volunteers of the Hospice by Val's extended family and friends for their exceptional care and support to her as she slipped away from us.
Val will be greatly missed for her sunny, upbeat view of life, her ready laugh and caring ways. The ups and downs, happy and sad times of her life never dimmed her spark.
She was known in several families as "Aunty Val". Always ready to listen, always interested in what the young people were doing, and to console if necessary. She is dearly missed.
By request, there is to be no service or celebration of life. Val's ashes have been flown down to Florida where they will be interned with those of her parents.
