SHUMAN. Violet Bessie Shuman (Tregunna), formerly of Langley, passed away peacefully at Vernon, on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. Aged 83 years. Bessie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by husband Ray of Armstrong; daughter Shirley (Larry) Schnurr of Armstrong; daughter-in-law Myrtle; six grandchildren Kathy, Ian, Diana, Sharon, Joyce and Brian; two step-daughters Wendy and Karen; stepson Wayne; two great-grandchildren Crystal and Jolen; extended family and many friends. Predeceased by first husband Ed in 1989 and son Bruce in 1975. Born March 7, 1920 in Cayer, Manitoba, Bessie met and married Ed Tregunna. They moved to Copper Mountain where they were very involved with First Aid and Mine Rescue. In 1945 they moved to Langley (Walnut Grove) where they had a chicken and berry farm. Bessie was active in many clubs including Fort Langley and West Langley Golden Agers, West Langley Community Hall Association, Fort Langley Farm Machinery Museum, PTA and the Women's Institute. She was Citizen of the Year for 1986-1987 and Queen of the Cranberry Festival. Several years after Ed passed away, Bessie and Ray Shuman were married and she was very active in the community until 2002 when they moved to Armstrong. Bessie was the author of "History of the West Langley Hall" She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. November 24, 2003 at St. Andrew's United Church, Fort Langley, B.C. Reverend David Smith officiating. Interment in family plot of Fort Langley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in the care of Mountain View Funeral Home, Armstrong and Henderson's Langley Funeral Home.
