Grant passed away on Thursday, June 17th with his wife by his side. He is predeceased by his father Frank and brother Terry.
He is survived by his wife Loriane, children Daryl (Tyla), Evan (CJ), and Lora-Lynne (Ryan), mother Louis, and siblings Darlene (Randy), Don, and Doreen.
He is also survived by 5 grandchildren Ethan, Nathaniel, Mara, Alexander, and Tatiana, who were very dear to his heart, and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born and raised in Victoria, Grant enjoyed long-distance running and model airplanes.
He graduated BCIT an aircraft maintenance engineer and worked converting the Martin Mars aircraft from a troop transport to a water bomber. After a decade working as an aircraft mechanic, he built a hospital and many clinics in Nigeria.
Between trips he met his wife, Loriane, who joined him in Nigeria. Grant went on to create his own company (Dyrol Industries), then worked as a project manager in the steel building industry. Eventually, his heart for people lead him to, along with Brookswood Baptist, sponsor a Syrian family to Canada.
Grant worked closely with them, teaching himself Arabic and helping many to learn English. In the process, they became like a second family. Grant begun working with Compass to develop a cohousing community he and his wife could be a part of.
The community workshop will be named "Grant's Place" in his honour. In keeping with how he lived his life, his final words were that the most important thing in life is love, and to always be kind to others because you never know what effect your actions will have. He will be greatly missed by all!
Grant will be laid to rest with a private graveside service at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Surrey.
A memorial Zoom meeting will be held Saturday, June 26th at 2 pm. Registration is required (https://mymeetingonline.com/grant). In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Grant's name to his grand-nephew's project The Free Food Cart (https://www.gofundme.com/f/freefoodcart), the Nigerian orphanage Ministry of Mercy (http://www.ministryofmercy.org/), or your local food-bank.
The hovercraft will be finished!
