Editorial — Lottery winner emerges

Congratulations to the holder of the winning ticket. May the additional funds help you to live a good life.

A lottery ticket sold in Langley almost a year ago has finally turned up, and been given to the B.C. Lottery Corporation. It is worth $50 million.

The corporation is verifying it and, should all go well, the winner will receive the prize soon.

The question most people have been asking for months is, why would anyone hold on to such a valuable ticket for so long? Some of the answers may come out when the winner is introduced, after picking up the funds from BCLC.

According to BCLC, the winning ticket holder has likely foregone at least $900,000 in interest. However, when you know you have won $50 million, perhaps that isn’t too important a consideration.

There have been many rumours in the community about the winning ticket holder. Perhaps one of them may be true, but unless the information came directly from the holder of the winning ticket, the rumours can likely be discounted.

Congratulations to the holder of the winning ticket. May the additional funds help you to live a good life, and spend lots of quality time with loved ones. If you choose to be generous with a portion of your winnings, so much the better — but that is your decision.
