Editor: For the second straight year, Langley Township council has bent over backwards to allow street parking along 80 Avenue, between 209 and 212 Streets
These individuals who complain to the council say the parking is required for their beloved guests. “Where will our guests park during the holiday season?” they whine.
Really? Your guests? How about telling the truth — this is so you can park your own car on the street because either your garage is full, or not being occupied, or you have way too many people living in your house. Do they have junk in their garages? Do they have illegal suites?
Did these people not look around before they bought their houses to know there would be no street parking, and 80 Avenue would be expanded to four lanes and used as a feeder route to Highway 1 via 216 Street? It’s all laid out in the Willoughby Plan on the Township website.
Why are these people crying now? If you look at any time of the day during this holiday parking period along 80 Avenue, you will see the same cars parked there. Take that to the bank.
Look at 209 Street. You think this is guests parking on the street? Nope. It’s the residents of the townhouse complexes along 209 Street. These people have garages and driveways yet they park on the street.
If you have a problem parking your own car, maybe you should have bought a bigger home or better yet, taken a look at the Township plan.
My property taxes go towards funding the expansion of 80 Avenue to four lanes. I didn’t sign up for my money being used to expand the street and have it used for street parking.
The council is setting a very bad precedent here. If I don’t like something that is really stupid to begin with, I should go cry to the council and they will go in my favour? Ridiculous.
These people who lobbied to implement parking should really give their heads a shake. You aren’t concerned about your “guests.” You are concerned about where you should park because you bought a small house or aren’t utilizing your garage properly, or you have illegal tenants.
Wake up council. You are being had.
