Editor:

Once again, due directly to the ongoing support and dedication of the community, Second Story Treasures Hospice Thrift Store is pleased to report a very successful year. The Hospice Thrift Store was incorporated in 1998 with a mandate to raise funds to support Langley Hospice palliative and bereavement programs. The store continues to be the largest contributor of the Society’s net revenue at 36% and enables us to offer our programs free of charge.

Not only is the store an excellent source of revenue, it provides an opportunity for volunteers to work together to support a common cause. Many of our wonderful volunteers have experienced the loss of a loved and have gone through our bereavement programs – truly a community of friends helping friends. We also embrace the motto “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rethink” which is a plus for the environment.

As part of the Hospice Palliative Care Team, we  had the opportunity to be involved with the renovations and upgrading of the Langley Hospice Residence, including the installation of ten new flat screen LED televisions, wall mounted for ease of viewing for the patients and their families. The Hospice has been given a fresh coat of paint, new blinds and draperies and the addition of slat walls which make it easier to showcase family photos and personal memorabilia.

We wouldn’t be the success we are without our loyal donors of gently used goods and our devoted customers who are always eager to purchase that “special treasure” at a bargain price.

The excellence of our team; the commitment of our boards; staff and volunteers and the support of our entire community allows and encourages us to be the very best we can be.

In closing, thank-you and please visit us soon at our Thrift Store located at 20349 – 88 Avenue in Walnut Grove or for support/education at 20660 – 48th Avenue in the City of Langley. Volunteer opportunities are also available at both places.
