It's time to make voting mandatory

We need to research and adopt a system of mandatory voting, as in Australia.

Editor: I will not fight the election again. The results are in, and sadly, in my opinion, we have another four years of the Lie-berals.  How incredibly awful.

The fact remains, we live in a democracy, and the people have spoken — however misguided I seem to think they are.

What is dreadfully wrong is that barely over 50 per cent of the electorate is deciding the outcome.

Australia has mandatory voting.  If you don’t vote, you are fined.  How they keep track apparently is somehow tied to income tax.

It is high time we researched and adopted such a system.  When a government can be elected with a healthy majority and receive way less than half the vote, something is very wrong.
