Letter: American College of Pediatricians not a reliable source of information

Editor: It is true that Susan Hitchman quotes the title of the position statement published by the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) when she says “SOGI ideology harms children.” (‘Speaker was citing research, not offering personal opinion’, the Times , June 7)

Perhaps other parts of the ACPeds’ position statement will help your readers understand the college Ms. Hitchman says is so “highly respected.”

ACPeds holds that, “Many youth with homosexual attractions have experienced a troubled upbringing, including sexual abuse…” It believes that, “The homosexual lifestyle carries grave health risks.”

Finally, “Of particular importance to the founders [of ACPeds was] … the importance of the fundamental mother-father family (female-male) unit in the rearing of children.”

The American College of Pediatricians is not a reliable source of information about sexual orientation or gender identity.
