The misinformation just doesn’t end, with Dean Clark.
No longer satisfied with fear-mongering about surgical abortion, he has now decided to capitalize on some people’s fear of pharmaceutical drugs and spread misinformation about the “abortion pill,†RU-486 [RU-486 considered for Canadian use, Dec. 31 Letters, Langley Advance].
I suppose it is easy to understand how someone who is so thoroughly misinformed about surgical abortion would be equally misinformed about the abortion pill, considering they are equally safe. Not only does RU-486 have far fewer serious side effects than many drugs on the market today, but its adverse effects are easy to spot early on, and therefore very manageable.
Abortion procedures only become deadly when anti-choice extremists manage to outlaw them. It’s kind of sickening to see so-called pro-lifers using the safety of women to justify their totalitarian ideology, while actively working to make Canadian women’s lives more dangerous.
It’s the same disingenuous tactic used by the anti-gay bigots who make life as miserable as possible for LGBT teens and then cite high suicide and drug-abuse rates as evidence that the “lifestyle†is destructive.
If pro-lifers want to give logical or moral arguments against abortion, let them. None have successfully held up to rebuttal, but that process of argument is how we settle moral issues.
However, pretending that they care about women is laughable. They are pro-birth, not pro-life. And they’re certainly not pro-woman.
