Editor: Re: Improvements to 203 Street creating problems for traffic (the Times, April 26)

The City of Langley should be applauded for the improvements along 203rd and the increased livability for the residents of this area.

Hopefully more projects like this are in the future for Langley City to increase the livability and quality of life for its residents.

Sadly, over the time that I have lived in Langley City (18 years) the amount of traffic from outside our small community speeding through our City streets on their commutes elsewhere instead of using main routes has risen to ridiculous levels, on some streets it is worse than the downtown Vancouver core, but with high speeds also in the mix.

More roundabouts and road narrowing is required throughout our City to discourage traffic from speeding through residential areas to continue to keep Langley City as the place to be, not just driven through.

If professional drivers (fire truck drivers, delivery drivers and moving vans, as quoted by the letter writer) cannot navigate the improved roads, then they haven’t been trained properly and should get relicensed.

I am sorry to hear that the letter writer doesn’t like the new improvements, but perhaps he should find another route for his commute, get retested on driving skills and review his roundabout procedures as our nicely landscaped retaining wall doesn’t have a bearing on how a roundabout is navigated.
