Letter: Column on mushrooms should have featured more prominent warning

Amanita mushrooms are beautiful, but also very poisonous — a fact that should have been made more apparent in a Nov. 11 Langley Times column, says reader Katherine Woodrow.

Editor: Re: Beautiful mushrooms larger than life, by David Clements (the Times, Nov. 11).This article highlights the beauty of amanita mushrooms but it is not until midway through the report in brackets “(but note carefully, amanitas are very poisonous),” that the reader is made aware of how dangerous this mushroom is.

This is totally inadequate. A poison label should have been prominently placed with the photo. My concern is many readers won’t read the entire article to learn that amanitas are poisonous.
