Dear Editor,
It is encouraging to read comments like those of Lois Hooks [Coulter Berry unforgettable, Feb. 4 Letters, Langley Advance] and George Oddy [Fort developer shows a lot of nerve, Feb. 6 Letters, Advance] who are such community-spirited citizens. To them and to many of us who support Fort Langley’s heritage guidelines and Official Community Plan, the reasons those plans were put in place were for the benefit of all ,not just for one or two.
The “Hands on Heritage†project and a petition demonstrated that the majority in the community wish to preserve the small village with its fort, museums, CN station, etc. as a sample of the history for the future.
Our more than 200,000 tourists who contribute so much to B.C.’s economy do not come to see massive buildings like the planned Coulter Berry which will dominate the town and will replace our gracious community hall as the heart of Fort Langley.
And it is fun for visitors and families to sense village life in this world of urban development.
We hope that our mayor and councilors will work with staff and experts, and insist that all development conforms to the OCP, so that the community that elected them will regain confidence in their decisions.
