Letter: Council not listening on Brookswood development

Editor: Re: Langley Township councillors address development concerns for Brookswood/Fernridge (langleytimes.com).

Councillor Fox, unfortunately, while saying a lot, doesn’t seem to listen a lot.

He isn’t listening to the people he represents — that he is responsible for.

Why is this fact lost on our councils? You represent us and must listen to us when the overwhelming majority is speaking — and now yelling — what we want.

Councillor Fox also has not considered a rather important part of the school equation, something that troubles me, as he is someone who is being paid to find facts.

On our street alone we have seven young toddlers.

They aren’t in the school count lists yet, but they are here and they are going to go to Noel Booth.

Young families have returned to Brookswood to escape other parts of the Lower Mainland. We were part of that migration as well and we found the ideal place to continue having and raising our kids.

Countless others have done so, and in our neighbourhood of Meadowbrook I would estimate there are another 25 toddlers plus the ones we have. Why have these councillors not addressed the existing population that is here and will want to attend the school they researched and brought their families to attend?

All you have to do is look at preschool enrolment and the picture is clear.

This is irresponsible government practice and something that we will not allow any council, that is paid by us to represent us, to get away with.

The numbers are simply incorrect as are the council members who lull themselves into believing they are doing anything correctly if they are voting for any more development in Brookwood that will change it  irreparably for the worse.

We are watching and listening, something our council isn’t doing, and we will not stand for anything less than the proper development we deserve.

Diana Dawson,
