Letter: Crowdsourcing no better than begging

554langleyadvanceLangArt_opinion_letters

Dear Editor,

Is there any difference between sending one’s children out to beg on the street corner and allowing them to approach strangers for donations on GoFundMe?

If single mother Sherri-Lee Woycik cannot afford to fund her children’s expenses to attend taekwondo classes and have the testing done, they should choose a sport that doesn’t cost more than they can afford without begging.

I understand that the children did this on their own, but their mother should have halted the process as soon as she found out about it.

Instead, it is written up in the Advance as if they have done something wonderful.

Rosemary Allen, Langley
