Editor: Where is the coverage of the City election and candidates? There is lots of coverage of the Township.

Editor: Where is the coverage of the City election and candidates? There is lots of coverage of the Township.

I would like to submit an open letter to all candidates running for office in Langley City. Here is a rough example I sent to (mayoral candidate) Peter Fassbender:

How are you going to:

1) Advocate for rapid transit for Langley?

2) Work with others to deal with homelessness and opioid crisis? What programs does the city have that the provincial government doesn’t?

3) Work with the region and province to find realistic solutions to housing affordability and supply?

Is there any plan for property acquisition for the sake of low-cost housing development? Will there be even more tax prams for luxury homes?

4) Control taxes and invest in the City’s future? Homes are overvalued for the purpose of taxation right now. My home is assessed at $100,000 more than market value and taxed at that value. Will there be a rebate or reduction? What, specifically, will you spend taxes on for the “city’s future?”

Give us some specifics, please.

Ray Hamel,

Langley
