I am getting concerned.
Our daughter and her husband filled in the form for registering their daughter in kindergarten in the fall, and the questionnaire wanted to know what the child’s “preferred gender” was.
Really? For kindergarten?
When I was in school, being a boy or girl was a given.
Unfortunately, there were unfair limits put on what a boy and especially what a girl could do.
My father did not want my sister to go to university because young women were expected to marry and nurture children.
Well, she did marry and have children, but later in life she returned to university and today (in her 70s) is still teaching (now as a sub).
And while I believe motherhood is both a rewarding and very challenging vocation, it most certainly is not the only thing a woman can do.
But, today we are sending a different message – that a girl can become a boy and a boy can become a girl.
And some are encouraging this choice at a very young age.
This is and will instill incredible confusion in the hearts of children and youth.
Some time ago I was told of a child coming home in tears because a “caring” teacher – observing certain behaviour – let the child know it would be okay if she was a boy.
I recently heard of a grade school in the area where teachers are no longer permitted to address the students as boys and girls.
When we mess with something so innately basic to human existence, the majesty and mystery of our being created male and female, we are sowing seeds of deep unrest and will reap a whirlwind.
