Letter: Irony of Township’s ‘Arbour Day’ celebration (almost) laughable

Dear Editor,

On April 24, the municipality celebrated Community Arbour Day as reported in the Langley Advance on April 21.

The Township page stated “Join the 14th Annual Celebration that highlights the importance of trees and the urban forest… showcasing many ways trees contribute to the environment and the well being of the community.”

The hypocrisy lies in the fact that the mayor and his friends on council are intent on dismantling Brookswood/Fernridge at the behest of the developers.

The irony is almost laughable, if it wasn’t so unsavoury.

The event was held at Noel Booth Park, 36th Avenue and 202nd Street.

The forests to the immediate east and west of Noel Booth are slated for demolition under the present development proposals before [the] planning and engineering [department] and thence for rubber stamping by certain members of the council in the majority.

Absolute power…

Martin Allen,

Brookswood
