Dear Editor,
On Nov. 29, the Prime Minister announced that our government has approved Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Expansion Project, rejected Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipeline and announced a moratorium on crude oil tankers along British Columbia’s north coast.
I believe these decisions struck the right balance in fulfilling our environmental responsibilities with the rejection of the Northern Gateway proposal and validation of the crude oil tanker on our North Coast which will preserve the Great Bear Rainforest and Sea for future generations while opening up new opportunities for Canadians by ensuring that Canadian resources have an expanded path to global markets.
This is a very important issue for many British Columbians and several of my constituents have reached out to me regarding the project.
I appreciate and value your engagement; there are 157 conditions that must be met for the project to go forward and I encourage my constituents to get in touch with me if they have any questions, comments or concerns on the process.
