Dear Editor,
I am a B.C. taxpayer. I trusted that our elected officials were working for the good of all British Columbians.
I can only infer that they are not operating in good faith regarding their treatment of public education in this province, particularly after this past weekend’s showing.
I am deeply insulted at the way they have been misleading the public about their flimsy attempts to “bargain†with B.C. teachers. Clearly, they have no intention of negotiating or of respecting a collective agreement.
Rather, it is obvious that they would like nothing better than to dissolve the BCTF, sell out B.C. public education to the lowest bidder, and allow opportunity only to those who can afford private school education.
How many BC Supreme Court rulings would it take to convince them that government, too, must follow the law? How many of my tax dollars are they spending on the appeal of the two rulings against them?
I demand that this government negotiate in good faith and get serious about bargaining a collective agreement that addresses teachers’ working conditions and students’ learning conditions – for all British Columbians.
