Dear Editor,

In Bob’s otherwise innocuous column about Halloween [No more turnips to scare off Granny, Oct. 26, Langley Advance] made better by the omission of any mention of President Trump, just one jarring sentence ruined the ambiance: “Christians have never been creative, preferring to steal legends and traditions.”

Jesus Christ by all accounts was a most creative mind. He warned about “the traditions of men” their inventions and interpretations.

While Christians like to observe the birth of Christ, and resurrection, nowhere is it commanded. Christ only requested that His followers “Remember Me” after His death.

Easter eggs and bunnies, Pope Gregory’s declarations and Celts Samhein fall into “traditions of men,” which some appropriated falsely into Christianity. People aren’t perfect are they? Interestingly “stealing” is one of the Ten Commandments.
