In approving of commercial space in a future townhouse complex on 83rd Avenue, Township council has again completely ignored residents’ concerns with developers.
The latest example allows a townhouse complex to have commercial units. This neighbourhood at 83rd Avenue and 209th Street is completely residential. Why on earth would they allow commercial suites smack dab in the middle of a residential neighbourhood?
Do we not have enough commercial space in the Township, say, in commercial areas?
Councilor Bob Long added he “likes the commercial component.†Wow, really? Would he like it if it was next to his home?
He states that it would not be a “distraction.â€
Commercial offices or whatever it may be is not a distraction when you build it in the middle of a neighbourhood of homes, facing the main street?
Councilor Kim Richter was the only one who rightfully opposed it, as she thought it did not fit in with the neighbourhood.
Of course it doesn’t. She will get my vote in the fall.
The amount of density being formed in this part of Langley is already alarming. We need a mayor and council that will not just rubber stamp every proposal that is put before them, and listen to its citizens once and awhile.
There is nothing wrong with development, but it needs to be done responsibly.
