Dear Editor,
As you will know, the deadline for Intervenor Status Application to the National Energy Board (NEB) is February 12th, 2014. As Agricultural Land Rserve property owners in the floodplain directly affected, we strongly urge Council to represent Langley’s interests at the National Energy Board.
We are previously unaffected home and property owners who now face potentially catastrophic changes to their land use, wildlife habitat, and aquifer.
We own 33 acres in the floodplain along the Salmon River, a recognized spawning ground for salmon.
Kinder Morgan has identified two potential Trans Mountain pipeline corridors through our land!
Already, we are limited in our land use through restrictions imposed by the Department of Fisheries and Ocean and other wildlife authorities (protecting beaver, salmon habitat, and migratory birds).
Further farming restrictions imposed by an industrial interest would be devastating.
This is a highly sensitive ecological area, not to mention the groundwater for drinking that is important to thousands of residents in the community.
It is council’s obligation to represent and work for tax-paying stakeholders, and this matter is of importance to the entire Township of Langley.
