Letters: No evidence of killing spree in euthanasia statistics

Dear Editor,

Dean Clark writes that 32 per cent of all euthanasia deaths in Belgium are performed without the request of the person dying, and that 47 per cent of euthanasia deaths go unreported [Euthanasia road to problems, Oct. 30 Letters, Langley Advance].

That seemed incredible to me: if the deaths go unreported, who is gathering the statistics?

As for 32 per cent of all deaths being not by request, it would mean large numbers of doctors in Belgium are seemingly going on a berserk homicidal rampage.

I would like to see the source of that information, as I have looked through all the major news sites and cannot find any evidence of it.
