Letters: Religious explanations can be ridiculous

Dear Editor,

I wish to commend Travis Erbacher for his logical, sensible and well-written comments regarding religious bigots [Women’s rights beyond Christian reach, Aug. 19 Letters, Langley Advance].

Being a bit cowardly, I cling to the notion that there is a creative force that established the indescribable universe and all life within it.

I agree wholeheartedly with Travis, however, that some earthly religions have tried to explain the inexplicable in ways which, to many of us, are ridiculous, such as a God that will plunge us into hellfire and brimstone if we don’t obey his commands.

I am one of those who believe that, if life is indeed immortal (energy cannot be destroyed), we will be judged by the way we treated all life we have come in contact with.

In this regard there are many scientific minds now who believe that reincarnation to be a fact. This is not only applicable to human beings, but all life itself.

Mike Harvey, Langley
