Editor: On Feb. 6, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marked the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne as Queen of Canada —an occasion marked only once before, by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, in 1897.
To celebrate Her Majesty’s 60 years of selfless service and devotion to duty, His Excellency David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, is pleased to announce the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal as a visible and tangible way to recognize outstanding Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life. These medals provide an opportunity to honour exceptional Canadians for their contributions to their fellow citizens, to our communities and to our country.
As Member of Parliament for Langley, I have been invited to become a partner in this program by nominating eligible candidates to receive this national honour. Thirty medals have been allocated to me for presentation.
I am delighted to have this unique opportunity to recognize everyday Canadians who dedicate their time and efforts to bettering the lives of those around them, and making Canada stronger.
Your assistance in providing an opportunity for recognition of deserving Langley residents would be most appreciated.
