Propane cannons hurt other farms

Longtime horse farmer finds noise from propane cannons has a big effect on his business.

Editor: I operate a registered farm in the Agricultural Land Reserve in Langley Township. I have bred and sold horses for over 25 years.

Like many others, my farm and income have been gravely affected by relentless propane cannon blasts from nearby farms, from June through September each year.

Propane cannons cannot, in any respect, be considered or described as “normal farming practices” by anyone who lives near them.

At the recent public meeting, Langley residents and farmers clearly described the destructive impact these devices have on their lives, farms and businesses.

I urge Langley Township council to take a stance on this critical matter. I ask them to please insist that the minister of agriculture and the ministry revoke the ill-conceived guidelines that have created this untenable situation for Langley Township residents.
