Editor: Too often, kind actions are left unacknowledged.
On Sunday afternoon (July 24), I was driving out to Langley from downtown Vancouver to visit my parents for dinner. Most unfortunately, my Honda Civic’s transmission decided to give way on the 200 Street hill.
So as not to impede the busy traffic flow on that street, as I was losing power quickly, I managed to turn right onto Willoughby Way and the car finally came to rest at the corner of Wildwood Drive. It was evident it would have to be towed to a repair shop, which I had been predicting the week before.
Luckily within a few minutes, several people came to see what the problem was. A nice gentleman in a yellow shirt helped me push the car off the road and to the side. Shaunna Haidar of Wolfe Subaru offered assistance.
Two other people (from a special needs group home in the area) also kindly enquired if they could help. While I waited for a tow in the hot sun, I sat back on the edge of the cool lawn of the house my car sat in front of.
The woman who owned the house, Lisa, came out and enquired as to my troubles. She kindly offered me a much needed glass of water. She also stayed and chatted until the BCAA truck came, and we had a lovely conversation.
Thank you to the people of Wildwood Drive. Please continue your neighbourliness. It made a rather miserable situation into a pleasant afternoon.
