Editor: TransLink needs to give its collective head a shake. There is no money. What do they not understand about no?
I have no more money. I have no way of increasing the amount of money I need to live on.
I’m a taxpayer — I pay taxes on everything I use. If TransLink had the balls to implement turnstiles when SkyTrain was introduced, we would not be in this position.
They have been in denial for years and now they want those of us who don’t use the system because it doesn’t service us, to make it pay.
I pay TransLink tax on gas, I pay TransLink tax on Hydro, I pay for TransLink in my property taxes, and I pay the ethereal carbon tax (who knows where that money goes), in addition to other taxes that are hidden in our day-to-day transactions.
Now I am to pay a tax for having ‘A Bridge Too Far.’
Start by making those who use it pay for it. That should be an eye-opener. Let those who use the B-Line along Broadway pay for the five-minute service and the super service of SkyTrain from downtown to Coquitlam or Richmond. It does me a world of good out here in Aldergrove, yet I pay for it.
Look at Golden Ears. No one wants to use it, so what do they want to do — up the toll? Surrey and Langley are growing. We need services.
Stop giving excellent service to Vancouver proper, just give them good service. And start giving good service to those of us who live south of the Fraser, and are subsidizing all the expansion north of the Fraser.
