Aldergrove player signed to Junior Women's Pacific Steelers

An Aldergrove teen is headed for the Junior Women’s Hockey League.

Amy Potomak will be playing with the Pacific Steelers.

Aldergrove’s Amy Potomak has joined the ranks of the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Woman’s Hockey League.

The 16-year-old local player played for Pursuit of Excellence in the 2015-16 season, racking up 45 points (28-17-45) and 38 penalty minutes in 30 games.

A 5’8” 148 pound center, she also captained the 2015 Under-18 Team BC and was named tournament MVP at the nationals in Huntsville, Ont.

Potomak competed for Canada at the 2015 U18 IIF Women’s World Championships in the team’s silver medal-winning effort, collecting four points (2-2-4) in five games, fifth in tournament scoring.

“I have been coaching female hockey for 20 years and there are very few players I have come across that have Amy’s creativity, vision and ability to score,” said Steelers head coach Jeff Eaton. “She is a special athlete who is going to do amazing things in the game.”

Potomak has committed to play for the University of Minnesota NCAA in 2017-18 and join her sister Sarah who just received NCAA Rookie of the Year. The University of Minnesota recently won the NCAA National Championship, they have won the National Championship 4 times in the last 5 years.

“Amy Potomak is going to lead the Steelers to the next level,” said Eaton.

Eaton has previously coached Sarah Potomak as well as Amy’s brothers Devin and Brandon.
