Americans take down the Giants in overtime Saturday night in Washington.

Vancouver Giant goalie Ryan Kubic was credited with making a number of big saves, including what was referred to as a "remarkable left pad stop" that forced this weekend's game against Tri-City Americans into overtime.

The final score on Saturday night – at the Toyota Center in Kennewick ,Wash. – was 3-2 for the Americans.

Ty Ronning got the Giants off to a great start, scoring his ninth goal of the season just 21 seconds into the first period, explained Giants marketing director Brendan Batchelor.

Meanwhile, Tyler Popowich extended the Langley-based team's lead later in the period, beating Americans goalie Rylan Parenteau with a hard wrist shot from the right circle.

The Americans scored twice in the latter half of the second period to tie the game.

Tyler Sandhu extended his point streak to 12 games when he beat Vancouver's Kubic from the slot before Dylan Coghlan netted a power play goal on a one-timer from the point, Batchelor said.

Tri-City had the momentum throughout most of the third period, outshooting the Giants 15-5, but Kubic made the saves and earned Vancouver a single point.

Neither team found the net in the extra five-minute period, and Tyler Benson was the lone Giant to score in the shootout while Morgan Geekie and Sandhu both found the net for the Americans, Batchelor said.

Tri-City out shot Vancouver 38-28.

The Giants went 0-for-4 on the power play.
