Aquasonics win Canadian title

The BC Aquasonics senior team won the Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships Saturday in Saskatoon, Sask., beating its nearest competitor by a full 2.6 points.

The team scored 74.5667 to win gold with its routine “Atlantis.”

This result put them ahead of silver medalists Synchro Elite de Quebec, and Les Vestales, who placed third.

“We just won the national championships by a landslide,” said proud Aquasonics head coach Susan Kemper. “In this sport, it can be just hundredths of a point that separate competitors. Not today.

This team showed up for work and brought home gold.”

The BC Aquasonics senior team members includes Langley’s Emilie Sadler and Aldergrove’s Amy Whitton, along with Mackenzy Higgins (White Rock), Alexia Iten (Anmore),  Anna Seiler (Surrey), Madyson Stickley (Surrey), Alanna Stobbe (Abbotsford), and Erin Williams (Surrey).

Earlier last week, Olivia Zawadiuk of Coquitlam won bronze in the Senior Technical Solo event to go along with a fifth place in Senior Free Solo.

The Aquasonics junior team also had a top 10 finish, placing ninth in the Junior Free Event.
