Bailey scores twice as North Langley Bears tie Falcons

Junior bantam football team plays to 12-12 tie with Abbotsford Falcons

Zander Bailey ran for a pair of scores as the North Langley Bears battled the Abbotsford White Falcons to a 12-12 tie in junior bantam action last week.

The Bears hosted the Falcons at McLeod Park on Oct. 19.

After the Falcons's Samwell Uko scored on a 109-yard run in the first half — eluding what would have been a safety in his own end zone — the Bears defence bore down in the second half and shut down the Falcons for the rest of the game.

The defence was led by the stellar play of Jake Evans and Nick Lacroix.

For the offence, Jacob Stebbings was pressed into action at quarterback and responded with a strong game including completions to Andy Hanlen, Connor Hurley and Alex Henderson.

The North Langley bantam Bears played the Abbotsford Falcons tough for most of the game on Oct. 19 before the visiting Falcons pulled away late.

Abbotsford led 7-6 at the half and after North Langley pulled ahead 12-7, the Falcons took the ensuing kick-off 75 yards for the touchdown and a 14-12.

North Langley had the ball on the opposition's five-yard line but failed in three attempts to punch it in. Abbotsford then took the ball all the way down the field for an insurance touchdown, before adding another late score for the 28-12 victory.

North Langley's touchdowns came on a pair of touchdown passes from Kenzie Oram, one to Ian Canning and another to Max Joseph.

After trading touchdowns on the game's first two possessions, the North Langley Bears and the Abbotsford Falcons settled into a defensive struggle for the rest of the atom division football game.

And in the end, it was the Falcons prevailing 18-6.

Marcus Stang had the lone Bears touchdown, running it in from 60 yards out.

Callum Middleton, Jun McLean and Caleb Price all had success running the ball, but were unable to punch it into the end zone.

The defensive line was led by Jacob Diebert and Chris Morrison each registered a sack.

The North Langley midget Bears fell 34-3 to the visiting Victoria Spartans.

The Bears fell behind early and were only able to put together one long scoring drive, which was capped off by Chris Baerg's 35-yard field goal.

Mook Kim and Sebastian Joseph made major drives along the ground on the run while Braeden Pritchard connected with Adrian Clements through the air to also keep the chains moving.

On defence, Eric Boomars made several tackles and also came up a fumble recovery.

Alec Robertson made some big tackles on Spartan ball carriers in the backfield while Marcel Mirek, Zach Guy, Garrett Fredley, David Fredo, Barry Duguma, Clements and Joseph also were active in the tackling department.

The North Langley peewee Bears continued their improvement.

The Bears fell behind early in a 30-0 loss to the Abbotsford Falcons.

Despite the score, North Langley's defence was much better after a slow start and their special teams blocked all but one of the Abbotsford convert attempts.

Brandon Bynjolfson, Joey Yeomans, Ken McLean and Cadeyrn Barthelson all had great runs while Nicholas Triemstra hauled in a couple of passes.
