The BC Aquasonics, who include members from Langley, launched the 2014/15 competitive synchronized swimming season with first place finishes at the recently held Lower Mainland regional synchronized swimming championships at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex.
The Aquasonics led the way in every event they entered, capturing top spot in the following categories: junior team, junior combo, and junior duet.
Taking first place in the National Stream events for the BC Aquasonics were:
• The junior A team coached by Susan Kemper and Tanya Magee (Cannibals Routine) with Alanna Stobbe (Abbotsford), Cameron Blades (Langley) and Lindsey Solmes (Langley)
• The junior combo team coached by Susan Kemper (Zombies Routine) with Alanna Stobbe (Abbotsford), Cameron Blades (Langley) and Lindsey Solmes (Langley).
• And the the junior duet coached by Susan Kemper with Surrey athletes Judith Gerhalter and Marlene Gerhalter.
The junior B team, coached by Tanya Magee and Suzanna Goddard, which came second in the Junior Team event and third overall with their Aliens routine.
“It was a great start to the season,†Aquasonics head coach Susan Kemper said. “We have some crazy routines this year – Cannibals and Zombies and Aliens – that really enable our athletes to show the kind of fierce competitors they are. We are here to win. And that’s what we did.â€
The Aquasonics also dominated in the figures and technical skills competitions, with four Aquasonics placing in the top 10 in figures and five in the top 10 in Technical Skills.
These regional championships, hosted by the Aquasonics, brought together National Stream synchronized swimmers from around the province in the 11-12 and 13-15 age groups, juniors (16-18 years) and seniors (18-plus), with each region competing within itself.
BC Aquasonics National Stream athletes and coaches represent communities across the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.
