BC Athletics honours six

Three members of the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club will be honoured for their outstanding track and field accomplishments in 2010.

They will be recognized by B.C. Athletics at a year-end banquet tomorrow (Saturday) in Richmond.

Jacob Houlton and Georgia Ellenwood will receive awards for being among the top track and field athletes for their midget (15) age group.

Both excelled at the B.C. Summer Games as well as Canadian championships, winning multiple medals in every meet during the season. Ellenwood also won the Bennett Award as the top performer at the B.C. Summer Games.

Braedon Dolfo, 17, has been named the disability athlete of the year.

Dolfo, who is visually impaired, spent much of the past year competing for Canada at various meets, including at the prestigious Penn Relays. He is currently in New Zealand for the Paralympic world championships.

Dolfo is also nominated for a Sport BC award, in the athlete with a disability category. The award will be presented Feb. 24.

Three other Langley track and field athletes will be honoured at the B.C. Athletics banquet.

Django Lovett and Jared Heldman, who both compete with the Valley Royals Track and Field Club, are nominated for the junior male track and field athlete of the year.

Both won multiple medals at the B.C. high school track and field championships for Brookswood Secondary and also represented Canada at the world junior championships.

And the sixth nominee is Steve Osaduik, of the Prairie Inn Harriers, a Victoria-based running club.

Osaduik, 31, will be recognized as the 2010 senior male road runner of the year.
