Becoming part of history

Langley student Austin Machholz, 16, will be carrying the Olympic torch in Surrey Monday. He said he was thrilled when he found out he had been selected as a torchbearer.

“I was so excited to be a part of something so historic,” he said.

Machholz goes to Langley Christian High School and competes in track and field. He was selected to carry the torch through a Royal Bank of Canada contest. He said he can’t wait for his chance to carry it.

“What an amazing feeling it will be to carry the torch through Surrey and be able to be a part of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games!” he said. “I am so proud to be a Canadian and to host the world in our great province.”
