Double-digit runs in both games helped the Langley Blaze push their win streak to four games — and take over top spot.
The Blaze — with eight wins in their past 10 games — improved to 21-8 and now lead the BC Premier Baseball League after 15-4 and 12-2 wins over the Coquitlam Reds on Sunday at Coquitlam’s Mundy Park.
Game one saw a relentless Blaze attack score 15 runs as they pounded out 16 hits.
Nearly half the damage came of the bat of Rhys Cratty as he went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and seven RBIs. He also scored three times.
Dawson Gray, Daniel Martin and Micheal O’Toole each brought home a pair of runs.
Kyle Prather and Colby Ring combined on a five-hitter. Prather gave up four runs — but only one earned — over four innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Ring came on for the final three innings and struck out eight of the 11 batters he faced.
Game two saw Langley fall behind 1-0 after one inning before taking over. Leading 6-1 heading into the final inning, the Blaze doubled their score with a six-run seventh inning.
Michael Stovman — who was walked three times in game one — finally saw some pitches he liked and responded with a 2-for-3 effort which included a three-run home run.
Both Cratty and Stovman spent time last month with the Canadian junior national team in the Dominican Republic.
Gus Wilson, Marshall Luiz and Jake Kristensen each had two RBIs.
Stovman also earned the win, striking out nine while allowing one run on three hits over six innings.
Next up for Langley is the Abbotsford Cardinals on June 15 at McLeod Athletic Park.
