With the tying run on first base and two outs, Nick Iverson came through with the strikeout and the save as the Langley Blaze held on for a 5-3 victory over the Abbotsford Cardinals.
The two B.C. Premier Baseball League rivals were playing Tuesday night at Abbotsford’s Delair Park.
The Blaze improved to 17-10 with the victory.
Langley had built a 5-0 lead, scoring twice in the third inning and then three more times in the fourth inning.
Jake Kristensen twice scored on wild pitches and also had an RBI double. Michael Stovman also had an RBI double and Yi-Fan Pan had an RBI single.
Abbotsford managed just one unearned run off starter Markus Gregson, who went five innings, striking out eight. The Cardinals would score twice in the bottom of the seventh inning before Iverson got the final two outs.
The victory came on the heels of Langley winning three of four weekend games.
The Blaze next host the Coquitlam Reds in a doubleheader on July 2 at McLeod Park.
