Blaze push win streak to eight games

The Langley Blaze pushed their winning streak to eight games as they sit  in top spot of the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

The U18 ball club swept a Sunday doubleheader, 11-0 and 9-4, against the host Coquitlam Reds at Mundy Park. The victories improve Langley to 18-3 and give them a three-game lead atop the standings.

In the opener, the Blaze used back-to-back five-run innings to blow open the game, while pitcher Devon Stewart delivered a gem, allowing just one hit over the game’s five innings.

Scott McCarthy led the offence with two hits, three runs and three RBIs.

Tyler Barlow and Bill Germaine had two RBIs apiece, while Ricky Bertrand had one.

The second game required Langley to overcome an early 3-0 hole.

The Blaze eventually tied the score at four and then struck for six runs in the sixth inning.

Matt Cratty drove in three runs — with a home run and a double — while Josh Wray, Germaine and Barlow had one RBI apiece.

Justin Geerts threw two innings of relief to pick up the win.
