Langley Blaze baserunner Aaron Horanski scrambles back to first base to avoid a pickoff attempt in the first game of their BC Premier Baseball League doubleheader against the Vancouver Cannons, Saturday at Queen’s Park Stadium. The Blaze won both games, 10-0 and 8-1 and then split a doubleheader on Sunday against the White Rock Tritons, winning the opener 8-1, before losing the back-half of the doubleheader, 3-2.

The Langley Blaze offence was in fine form for much of the weekend as the U18 baseball team won three of four games.

The Blaze quieted the Vancouver Cannons 10-0 and 8-1 on Saturday at Queen’s Park, before splitting a Sunday doubleheader with the White Rock Tritons. The Blaze took the opener 8-1 before losing 3-2 in game two.

Langley improved to 7-4 with the results.

Blaze 10 Cannons 3

Josh Wray drove in four runs while Bill Germaine had another three RBIs. That was more than enough offence for pitcher Jon Bauer, who scattered three hits and one walk over seven innings. He also struck out seven.

Bauer is 4-0 on the season and has yet to allow an earned run.

Blaze 8 Cannons 1

Germaine drove in another two runs, while Rutckjy connected with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Marc Andre Habeck allowed just one run on three hits over six innings.

Blaze 8 Tritons 1

Four runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh helped turn a 1-0 game into an 8-1 rout.

Justin Geerts went six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on six hits.

Aaron Hornanski and Matt Cratty both belted RBI doubles. Germaine and Greg Rogers also had RBIs.

Tritons 3 Blaze 2

White Rock broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the third as they stopped Langley’s winning streak at three games.

Cratty had the lone RBI.

Cortez Chappell was tagged with the loss after giving up two earned runs over four innings.

Langley faces the North Delta Blue Jays at McLeod Park on April 23 (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m.
