Back-to-back big innings sent the Abbotsford Cardinals past the Langley Blaze in the B.C. Premier Baseball League season opener for both U18 squads last week.

The Cardinals scored three times in the third inning and tacked on another five runs in the fourth to defeat the Blaze 8-4 on April 11 at Abbotsford's Delair Park.

Langley, which had scored one run in the top of the third, scored twice more in the fifth and once more in the sixth,

Andre Pelletier drove in a pair of runs while Tony Pharand and Dakota Curry had one RBI apiece. Curry's came on a solo home run.

Jonathan Keltie was tagged with the loss, allowing six earned runs over three innings.

Pharand pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs, one of which was earned.

The Blaze will look to break into the win column when they play their home opener on April 15 at McLeod Park against the White Rock Tritons. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
