Former Trinity Western star Jacob Doerksen has landed a contract in the German Pro A division for next season.

Abbotsford's Jacob Doerksen is moving up in the pro basketball world.

The Rick Hansen Secondary grad spent last season with the UBC Hannover Tigers in Germany's Pro B division last year. He's moving up to the Pro A division for the 2012-13 campaign, after signing with Rasta Vechta on Wednesday.

The 6'7" forward, who played his university basketball with the Victoria Vikes and Trinity Western Spartans, was dominant in his first pro season, averaging 21.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and two steals per game in 33 contests with UBC Hannover.

Doerksen was named Germany Pro B Center of the Year by Eurobasket.com, and was also honoured as a first team all-star and a member of the all-import team by the website.

“My first year playing professionally was a wonderful experience,” Doerksen said. “I am excited to be moving up to Pro A and look forward to a great year ahead.”

Rasta Vechta beat Doerksen’s former team in the semifinals of the Pro B playoffs, earning promotion to the Pro A division.

“We watched Jacob for the entire season and thought his skill set would be a tremendous addition to our club,” said Rasta Vechta board member Thomas Zubrägel. “Now that we have moved up to Pro A, Jacob is going to be an important part of our club having a successful season.”
