Dolfo, Ellenwood among Langley honourees

Seven Langley athletes were honoured for their achievements by BC Athletics

Georgia Ellenwood and Braedon Dolfo were among the winners at the 2012 BC Athletics Awards.

Ellenwood won the youth female athlete of the year award while Dolfo was the Para-athletics male athlete of the year.

The winners were celebrated on Saturday (Dec. 1) at the Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond.

Both Ellenwood and Dolfo represented Canada this past summer: Ellenwood at the World juniot track and field championships in Spain and Dolfo at the Paralympic Games in London.

Two other Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club members were also among the award winners.

Robyn Buckingham and Nick Colyn were among the winners of the midget athletes of the year. Buckingham competes in the jumps and combined events while Colyn is a distance runner.

Colyn also won the cross-country runner of the year award.

And finally, two members of the Trinity Western Spartans were among the honourees.

Fiona Benson was named the senior female cross-country runner of the year while Joel De Schiffart was named junior male road runner of the year.

Benson recently completed the most impressive individual season in Spartans history, earning both Canada West female athlete of the year and CIS first team all-Canadian honours after finishing first amongst Canada West runners and fifth overall at the CIS national championships.

And high jumper Django Lovett was recognized for representing Canada at the NACAC (North American, Central America and Caribbean) U23 championships in Mexico.
