The Walnut Grove Gators battled back from a two sets to none deficit to force a fifth and deciding set, but the senior boys volleyball team came up just a few points shorts of capping the comeback.
The Gators lost 15-13 in the deciding set to fall in the quarter-finals of the BC 3A senior boys provincial championships at the Langley Events Centre on Friday morning.
Walnut Grove fell 3-2 (25-19,25-15,14-25,21-25,15-13) to the Dover Bay Dolphins, the top team from Vancouver Island.
The Gators had gone 0-3 in power pool play on the first day of the championships before knocking off the Delta Pacers 3-1 (23-25,25-17,25-23,25-17) in the round of 16 match.
Walnut Grove wraps up the championships with two more matches and the team can finish anywhere from fifth to eighth at the 20-team tournament.
