Dominant defences lead way to victory

North Langley football teams go 5-0 with three of the five victories coming via shutout

Ryan Barthelson scored a pair of return touchdowns — one on an interception and another on a punt — as the North Langley Kodiaks hammered the Westside Warriors 42-0.

The midget football game was played on Sunday at Vancouver’s Carnarvon Park.

Barthelson finished with two interceptions while Max Joseph and Jonathan Chwaklinski also picked off Warrior passes as the team had a great defensive effort.

Luke Chalk caught a pair of touchdown passes from Nicholas Nica while Jared Slater also caught a TD pass.

Nica and Drey Blair also each rushed for one score.

Sam Wegert made four convert attempts.

Mitchell Byrne and Thomas Janke also had good games offensively for the Kodiaks who improved to 5-2.

PEEWEE

Marco Kee rushed for more than 100 yards and two scores while Jordan Tomica also gained some big yards and found the end zone as the North Langley Bears improved to 6-1 with a 26-0 win over the Chilliwack Blue Giants.

Owen Sieben also had a rushing touchdown.

The peewee football teams played last Friday night in Chilliwack.

The offensive line of Noah Look, Rowen Engele, Taylor Bear and Ian McRitchie were instrumental in opening up holes for the running game.Levi Brecknell, Evan Hoy, Cooper Zazelenchuk and Jordan Weber did a great job of blocking downfield.

On defence, Aiden McMurtry, Tydus Schroeder and Noah Look created havoc in the backfield while Manny Fotiou, Kayden Bell and Vaughn Pinchin came up with several big stops.

JUNIOR BANTAM

The North Langley Bears defence came up with five turnovers as they routed the Chilliwack Giants Red 51-0 on Saturday at Chilliwack’s Townsend Park in junior bantam football to improve to 6-3.

Connor Bernardin, Seth Mangroo and Michael Morgenrood each had a fumble recovery while Jesse Tomica and Ryan Goeson both picked off passes.

Jacob Evans and Leid Wallan had key tackles in pass coverage and Caleb Faust, Hunter Patterson, Bernardin and Morgenrood continuously got into the Chilliwack backfield.

Dallas Pattenden ran for more than 100 yards and two scores while Kaleb Reemeyer and Mitchell Gibbs had a touchdown apiece.

Jaxon Stebbings connected with Grayson Gehrer on a pair of passes, including a touchdown reception, as well as completing four passes for more than 60 yards to Tyson Hoy. Stebbings finished with more than 100 yards passing.

Callum Middleton and Tomica also found the end zone while Caleb Fennell added to the rushing attack.

Hoy kicked four converts.

BANTAM

In a battle of undefeated bantam football teams, it was the North Langley Bears emerging victorious after 28-8 victory over the South Delta Rams.

The game was played in Tsawwassen on Saturday and the Bears are now 6-0.

Ethan Bernardin ran for two scores while Taylor Fleming found the end zone once in the victory.

Nick Butler also helped keep the ground game moving the chains, as did a solid offensive line.

On defence, Michael Huggan picked off a pair of passes, returning one for a score and Jacob Ronald also had an interception.

David Wegert led the special teams with great kick-offs and some well-placed punts which pinned the Rams deep in their own territory on multiple occasions.

ATOM

The North Langley Bears atom football team improved to 5-2 with a 34-22 victory over Chilliwack Giants Blue.
